What is the difference between 209 and 209a primers

I notice no difference in accuracy between the brands but do notice slightly higher velocities with the hotter primers. So I see no detrimental effect with the use of hotter primers except the Fed As seem to foul the original Sav breechplug more than some other primers. Different guns have different fits.

My wife is the only one who can tell me what to do and not do. Heck, I worked with explosives my whole working life. I have stories that would scare heck out of you. I have also been told by Alliant to just sub Fed A for Win primers when I found the variablility in the new Win primers.

Of course I do not recommend others to sub anything. Jan 24, Ned no one is telling you specifically what to do, you know what you are doing but others may not, If you read Page 59 of the new Alliant powder manual in the section labeled "Special Notes Regarding Components Other than Powder" In section B on line five it states and I quote" Federal A is "hotter" and cannot be substituted for Federal " unquote. I think they put this there for a reason , don't you??????????
